UPDATE Sept 05, 2019: Congratulations to Aeloi and E-Waste for ranking as the top-2 start-ups of ClimateLaunchpad Nepal 2019

Emerging Technologies Pvt. Ltd.has successfully concluded the second edition of ClimateLaunchpad Nepal 2019 at Hotel Himalaya on Friday, August 30, 2019. ClimateLaunchpadis the world’s largest green business ideas competition and a platform for clean-tech talent to help them grow their sustainable idea into global business to combat Climate Change. The partners for the program in Nepal are Alternative Energy Promotion Centre(Government of Nepal), Climate-KIC, EIT – European Institute of Innovation and Technology, UNDP Nepaland GIZ Nepal.Honorable Kailash Pd. Dhungel, Minister for Economic Affairs & Planning, Province-3 presided over the National Final event as the Chief Guest. The seven participating start-ups presented their green business ideas in front of the guests, partners and a jury panel. Dr. Narayan Pd. Adhikari, Director at Alternative Energy Promotion Center, Ms. Shanti Karanjit Ojha, Climate Change Portfolio Manager at UNDP Nepal, and Mr. Kushal Gurung, CEO at WindPower Nepalwere the jury members. Mr. Vijaya Singh, Assistant Resident Representative at UNDP Nepal, presented the awards to the top two start-ups, E-Waste and Aeloi. They will represent Nepal at the Global Grand Final to be held at Amsterdam in November this year, where more than 60 countries will be participating. Other teams that participated in the National Final were DV Excellus, EnergyX, Reverse Vending Machine Nepal, The Techy Farmers, and TREEnfinity.

UPDATE Sept 08, 2018: Three Teams to represent Nepal in Climate Launchpad Grand Final, UK

Climate Launchpad, the world’s leading green business ideas competition, hosted the National Final of Nepal on Friday, September 07, 2018 at Hotel Yak and Yeti, Kathmandu. Climate Launchpad Nepal 2018 is organized by Emerging Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in partnership with the Government of Nepal, UNDP, Global Environment Facility, German Development Cooperation, WindPower Nepal, Sagarmatha Cement, Nepal Insurance Company, Thames International College, and SUN Urja Nepal.

The Chief Guest for the program, Honorable Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet,Ministry of Forests and Environment,Government of Nepal spoke about the importance of entrepreneurship training and promotion programs in the context of Climate Change. Esteemed guests Mr. Renaud Meyer, Country Director, United Nations Development Programme; Dr. Claudia Hiepe, Head of German Development Cooperation, German Embassy; and Mr. Nawa Raj Dhakal, Acting Executive Director, Alternative Energy Promotion Centre also spoke at the program.

At Nepal’s National Final, the 12 selected teams pitched their business ideas and a jury panel of experts selected the best 3 teams from Nepal to represent the country at the Global Grand Final in the UK in November 2018. The winner of the National Final was Team Green Coal Pellet who produce cost effective eco-friendly Green Coal Pellets for brick and cement industries. The runner up was Team EEBrick who manufacture Cement Stabilized Earth Brick (CSEB), which is low cost, energy efficient and environment friendly for house construction. In third place was Team KISAN Agro who empower farmers to develop rural agro industry and provide healthy and organic vegetables to urban customers.

Climate Launchpad is a platform for helping aspiring entrepreneurs grow their green ideas into global businesses to fix Climate Change. Nepal joined Climate Launchpad for the first time in 2018 on the initiative of Abhishek Yadav, an energy and environment expert and Managing Director of Emerging Technologies. The competition welcomed applications in innovations in renewable energy, energy efficiency, food and agriculture, water, transportation, industrial technology or any other way to tackle Climate Change till August 08, 2018. Out of the 58 applications received in Nepal, 12 teams were invited to join the competition based on the judging criteria of Climate Launchpad.The selected teams started off their rigorous training with a 2-day Boot Camp and six Coaching Sessions to prepare for their National Finals.

Out of 135 teams representing 45 countries in the Grand Final, the world’s top-10 best ideas win access to the Climate-KIC’s Accelerator, a programme focused at clean-tech commercialization. The overall winner of the Grand Final also receives a cash prize of €10,000, the runner up receives €5,000 and the team that comes in third place wins €2,500. Climate Launchpad is part of the entrepreneurship offerings of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s Climate-KIC, the European Union’s main climate innovation initiative. Representative of partner organizations, energy and climate change professionals, and investors were present at the National Final.
